$100 million so far raised through the Campaign for Mount Vernon

In January 2022, contributions to Strengthening Our Foundations: The Campaign for Mount Vernon reached $100 million, marking two-thirds of the way toward the campaign’s $150-million goal.

Mount Vernon attained this milestone thanks to thousands of donors from across the country making gifts of all sizes to support Mount Vernon’s education and preservation mission. An important part of this success was last year’s triple-match gift opportunity, which raised more than $900,000.

The campaign will enable Mount Vernon to take on immediate preservation challenges, ensure educational resources and programs are second to none, and increase annual support while building a transformational endowment that will secure the financial strength of the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association for generations to come.

Priority initiatives for 2022 include reinterpretation of the Lafayette bedchamber in the Mansion, preservation of George Washington’s Tomb, growth of an endowment to support the George Washington Teacher Institute, and revitalization of the exhibition on George Washington’s biography in the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center.

“We are most grateful to those who enabled us to reach this milestone,” said Joe Bondi, senior vice president for development. “Opportunities remain to become involved in the campaign. Many important projects need funding, and every gift makes a difference. I look forward to starting conversations with new friends and longtime supporters about this significant campaign.”

The campaign’s dedicated website launched in 2021. The site features exclusive videos about the campaign’s priorities of preserving the Mansion and historic area, teaching America’s story, and securing the future. To learn more, visit campaignformountvernon.org
